Even in 2019 for the twenty-third time, the city of Maratea can show off the Blue Flag conferred by FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education).

The major has declared:” Maratea has been decorated with this international recognition thanks to its careful policy about territory and water. For the community the Blue Flag is an incentive to do more and better.”

 

What is the Blue Flag?

The project is managed by the FEE which since 1987 and every year has been searching for the best beaches not only in Europe but all around the world.
The Flag is really coveted but the cities along the coast have to respect several requirements to achieve it. What does the place with Blue Flag guarantee? The target of FEE is to promote a sustainable tourism with informed and responsible citizens for the environment they live in. this is the reason why the rules include even billposting about water quality and local ecosystems. For more no dumping or waste water must involve the beach area.
 

What is a Blue Flag beach:

On a Blue Flag beach you should find a map of it with all the beach services and different containers are available for separated collection of rubbish. The Flag guarantees the monitoring of marine and lacustrine near the beach and all the areas surrounding it should be managed to protect biodiversity.

Obviously the Blue Flag is not only for the city which manages a wonderful place but even for all the citizens who care about environmental protection: they put a lot of efforts into keeping the beauty of places they live in.

The Flag is really an incentive to do better and all together we can achieve an important goal.
